2024's Orienteering Event will be at the Bay Area Orienteering Club's (BAOC) Scout Orienteering Championships!

Join us for a Scout specific orienteering event on Sunday, October 27, 2024, at Briones Regional Park, hosted by the Bay Area Orienteering Club! Scouts will develop and test their map reading skills with orienteering courses, starting with instruction at 9:00 AM.
The main Scout-O course will be run from 9am-12pm. Scouts and families are welcome to leave at this point or join us for more fun after a short lunch break! There will be a special Pack Orienteering Challenge event from 1-3pm and a brief award ceremony at 3:15pm. Scouts do not need to be present to win the various awards.
Everyone is welcome to attend and observe for free.
Scouts will be pre-registered based on evite RSVPs (paid by the Pack)!
Adults or siblings that want to participate can register at the event (at their own cost).
Everyone will need:
Cub Scout 6 Essentials (water, hat/suncreen, snacks, whistle, first aide kit, flashlight)
strong trail shoes
long pants (the park has stickers!)
a pen or pencil
compass
lunch and water
rain gear (if applicable)

Freaking Awesome QuestionsWhile most questions can be answered on the event page, here are some of them and more:
Is lunch included? No, please pack and bring a lunch.
Are the electronic readers (finger sticks) included in the fee? Yes!
Is a compass included? No, but you can rent one for a dollar or so at the event.
Where's the registration table? The registration table will be at the parking lot. You can check in and then take the 20 minute walk up to the start line.
Do adults need to pay the fee if they're just monitoring the children? No. If adults/siblings want to participate they can register at the event at their own cost.
Can people do the Cub Scout map and then also do one of the more difficult maps? All registered participants can complete multiple courses as time allows.
Can we leave after our group's orienteering run? You can, but you'd miss the second event in the afternoon and the awards ceremonies.
What is the afternoon event? The afternoon event is a 90 minute challenge to see how many control points you can get before the time runs out.
Do you need to be present to receive an award? No, we'll send them to you.
